Best Time to Visit Mashatu Game Reserve

The best time to visit Mashatu Game Reserve is during the dry season in May to October. Wildlife viewing is at its peak as animals congregate around water sources, and vegetation is sparse, making it easier to spot game. The weather is also cooler and more comfortable for outdoor activities like walking or cycling safaris. For bird enthusiasts, the wet season in November to April is ideal, as migratory birds arrive, and the reserve becomes lush and green.

Low Season

November to April

This is the rainy season, characterized by lush landscapes and an abundance of birdlife. While game viewing is still good, wildlife is more dispersed due to the availability of water across the reserve. The rains often bring dramatic thunderstorms, adding a unique charm to the scenery.

High Season

May to June

The beginning of the dry season offers cooler temperatures and good wildlife viewing as animals start gathering near permanent water sources. The bush is still slightly green from the rains, providing a beautiful backdrop for photography.

Peak Season

July to October

The height of the dry season is ideal for wildlife enthusiasts. Animals are concentrated around water sources, and visibility is excellent due to the sparse vegetation. This period is popular with tourists, so accommodations and activities may require booking well in advance.
