Nairobi- and Arusha-Based Safari Experts with Africa on the Ground
Expertly Curated Safaris Through Africa’s Most Extraordinary Wilderness
Cheetah Safaris is a locally owned luxury safari DMC and Tour Operator based in Nairobi, Kenya, and Arusha, Tanzania, designing private and tailor-made journeys across East and Southern Africa.
Our advantage is simple: we plan your safari from Africa, not from a distant sales office. Our destination specialists, safari guides, and local partners understand the routes, conservancies, camps, seasonal wildlife movements, and logistics that determine how a safari actually works on the ground.
That matters when you are deciding between the Maasai Mara and a private conservancy, timing a Serengeti safari around the Great Migration, combining gorilla trekking with a safari, or adding Zanzibar or the Seychelles after your time in the bush.
We work with families, couples, honeymooners, private groups and independent luxury travellers, creating itineraries around their preferred pace, accommodation, wildlife priorities and budget rather than selling a fixed itinerary to everyone.
Our role is not simply to book a lodge. It is to connect the right places, people, guides and experiences into one well-managed African journey.

Luxury African Safari FAQs
Planning a luxury African safari should feel seamless and inspiring. Our safari specialists are here to answer your questions and help you design tailor-made journeys across East and Southern Africa with expert local knowledge and personalized support.
How much does a luxury African safari cost?
A luxury African safari can range from around US$500 to US$8,000+ per person per day, depending on the destination, safari camp or lodge, season, private guiding, internal flights, activities and length of stay. The price of a safari is usually quoted per person and can vary significantly between destinations and accommodation levels.
For example, a private safari in Kenya or Tanzania during a peak wildlife period such as the Great Migration will generally cost more than a safari travelling during a quieter season. Fly-in safaris, private vehicles, exclusive-use accommodation and specialist experiences can also increase the overall cost.
At Cheetah Safaris, we build the itinerary around your priorities and budget rather than starting with a fixed package. Your proposal can show the accommodation, transport, activities and other inclusions so you can understand what you are paying for.
If you have a target budget, we can recommend the destinations, camps and safari style that provide the best fit.
What is included in a luxury African safari?
Inclusions depend on the itinerary, destination and accommodation selected, but a tailor-made luxury safari may include accommodation, meals, private or shared game drives, park or conservancy fees, airport and lodge transfers, internal flights, selected safari activities and the services of professional guides.
Some itineraries may also include experiences such as hot-air ballooning in the Maasai Mara, cultural visits, walking safaris, boat excursions or other specialist activities, depending on the destination.
International flights, visas or travel authorisations, travel insurance, personal expenses, premium drinks and some optional activities are normally separate unless specifically included in your itinerary.
Cheetah Safaris provides a detailed itinerary and quotation so you can see what is included, what is excluded and which activities are optional before confirming your safari.
Is Africa safe for a luxury safari?
Safari destinations such as Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Southern Africa have established tourism infrastructure, professional safari operators and experienced guides, but safety conditions can vary between countries and regions.
On a Cheetah Safaris journey, your itinerary is planned with the practical conditions of each destination in mind. Our team coordinates accommodation, transfers, safari activities and local operations, while professional guides manage your movements during game drives and other wilderness experiences.
We also provide destination-specific pre-travel guidance covering practical matters such as local conditions, travel documents, recommended precautions and what to expect during your safari.
Wildlife safety is also an important part of the safari experience. Guests are briefed on how to behave around animals and are expected to follow their guide’s instructions at all times.
How many days are ideal for an African safari?
There is no single ideal safari length. A 5–7 day safari can work well for travellers focusing on one region, while 8–14 days or longer allows more time to combine several wildlife areas or add experiences such as gorilla trekking, cultural activities or a beach stay.
For example, a Kenya safari could focus on the Maasai Mara and Amboseli, while a longer East African itinerary could combine Kenya and Tanzania around the Great Migration. Travellers interested in gorilla trekking may need additional time for Uganda or Rwanda.
We recommend choosing the number of days based on your destinations, travel pace and priorities rather than trying to visit as many places as possible. Our slow-safari approach favours spending enough time in each area to experience it properly rather than changing camps every night.
Can I fully customize my African luxury safari itinerary?
Yes. Cheetah Safaris designs private, tailor-made itineraries around your interests, preferred travel pace, accommodation style and budget.
You can choose the destinations you want to visit, how long you stay in each area, the type of accommodation, whether you prefer private or shared game drives, and which experiences are most important to you.
For example, an itinerary could combine a private Maasai Mara safari with Amboseli, a Kenya–Tanzania Great Migration journey, gorilla trekking in Uganda or Rwanda, or a safari followed by a beach holiday in Zanzibar or the Seychelles.
Our destination specialists use your priorities to determine which combination works best logistically and seasonally, rather than simply adding destinations to a standard package.
How far in advance should I book a luxury African safari?
For most luxury safaris, we recommend starting the planning process 6–12 months before travel. Earlier planning is particularly useful for peak travel periods, popular safari camps, private-use accommodation and itineraries involving multiple countries or internal flights.
For the Great Wildebeest Migration, especially during the busiest months in the Maasai Mara and Serengeti, 9–12 months or more can give you a better choice of camps, room categories and preferred locations.
Booking earlier does not necessarily mean paying more. It gives you more accommodation and flight options, which is particularly important when your itinerary has specific requirements.
Last-minute safaris can sometimes be arranged, depending on availability, so it is still worth contacting us if your travel dates are closer.
Can I plan a honeymoon, anniversary or special occasion safari in Africa?
Yes. A private luxury safari can be planned around a honeymoon, anniversary, birthday, milestone celebration or other special occasion.
We can build the itinerary around experiences such as private game drives, secluded safari camps, bush breakfasts, sundowners, private dining and time in a beach destination after your safari, depending on the destination.
For example, a honeymoon itinerary could combine a private Kenya or Tanzania safari with a beach stay in Zanzibar or the Seychelles. Couples looking for a more secluded experience can also consider private conservancies or exclusive-use accommodation.
Tell us what you are celebrating and what kind of experience you want, and we can recommend the destinations, accommodation and activities that fit.
Are private guides available on luxury African safaris?
Yes. Private guiding can be arranged for many Cheetah Safaris itineraries, subject to the destination and accommodation selected.
A private guide gives you greater flexibility over the pace and focus of your safari. You can spend longer watching a particular animal, adjust your game-drive timing where permitted, and discuss interests such as wildlife photography, birds, conservation or local culture with your guide.
A private guide is particularly valuable for families, photographers, couples and travellers with specific wildlife interests. Private vehicles can also be arranged where appropriate, giving you greater flexibility than travelling in a shared safari vehicle.
We can advise whether private guiding or a private vehicle is worthwhile for your particular itinerary.
Can I combine an African safari with a beach holiday?
Yes. A safari and beach combination is one of the easiest ways to build a longer African holiday, particularly in East Africa.
A Kenya safari can be followed by the Kenyan coast, while Kenya or Tanzania can be combined with Zanzibar. Depending on your itinerary and flight connections, a safari in East Africa can also be extended with a beach stay in the Seychelles.
The safari can be planned around your preferred wildlife experience and the beach stay added for relaxation at the end of the journey. This works particularly well for honeymoons, couples, families and travellers who want a mix of wildlife, culture and time by the Indian Ocean.
We can coordinate the safari, internal flights, transfers and beach accommodation as one itinerary rather than treating the safari and beach stay as separate bookings.
Are luxury African safaris worth the cost?
A luxury safari can be worth the additional cost for travellers who value privacy, comfort, professional guiding, convenient transfers and access to high-quality camps or lodges in prime wildlife areas.
The difference between a luxury and lower-priced safari is not simply the quality of the room. It can also include the location of the camp, guide-to-guest ratio, private vehicles, flight connections, flexibility during game drives, quality of service and the amount of time spent travelling between destinations.
However, luxury does not mean every traveller needs the most expensive camp or itinerary. A well-designed safari should match your priorities and budget.
At Cheetah Safaris, we focus on selecting accommodation and logistics based on what you want from the safari, rather than simply choosing the highest-priced option.
How many African countries should I visit on one safari?
For most travellers, one or two countries can provide a more rewarding safari than trying to cover too many destinations in one trip. The right combination depends on the wildlife you want to see, the season, available flights and how much time you have.
Kenya and Tanzania work particularly well for travellers interested in the Great Wildebeest Migration because the migration moves between the two countries during the year. Kenya can also be combined with Uganda or Rwanda for travellers who want to add gorilla trekking.
For Southern Africa, combinations such as Botswana and Zimbabwe or South Africa and Botswana can be considered depending on your interests.
Our approach is to build the route around the experience rather than the number of countries. A slower itinerary with fewer destinations often gives you more time to enjoy each safari area.
Can first-time travellers do a luxury African safari?
Absolutely. You do not need previous safari experience to enjoy a luxury African safari. For first-time travellers, a well-planned itinerary can simplify the practical aspects of the trip, including airport transfers, internal flights, accommodation, safari activities and local transportation.
Your guide will explain what to expect during game drives, how to behave around wildlife and how each day’s activities work. The itinerary can also be paced around your interests, comfort and travel experience.
For a first safari, Kenya and Tanzania are popular choices because they offer a wide range of wildlife areas, established safari infrastructure and different accommodation styles. Uganda and Rwanda are strong options for travellers who want to combine wildlife with gorilla trekking.
Cheetah Safaris can help first-time safari travellers choose destinations, accommodation and activities based on their interests, budget and preferred level of comfort.
