ACCESS & LOCATION of Shinde

Shinde lies in the Shinde Concession in the northeastern Okavango Delta. The most practical way to reach the camp is via light aircraft to Shinde Airstrip, which is about a 25 minute flight from Maun or roughly 1 hour and 15 minutes from Kasane. From the airstrip, guests are met by their guide for a short game drive of approximately 5 to 10 minutes to the camp. Road access from major towns is not feasible due to the seasonal flooding and remoteness of the delta.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT Shinde

The camp features eight spacious safari tents built on raised wooden platforms, each with an en-suite bathroom, indoor and outdoor showers, and a private deck overlooking the surrounding floodplains. Interiors are tastefully furnished with comfortable beds draped in mosquito nets, writing desks, and lounge chairs, maintaining a traditional yet stylish safari feel. The main area includes an open plan lounge, dining room, and a multi level deck for uninterrupted views of the plains and waterways. A small plunge pool offers a refreshing break during the hotter parts of the day. Meals are freshly prepared and served either in the dining area, al fresco under the stars, or at scenic bush locations. The camp is solar powered and designed with eco-friendly practices to minimize environmental impact.

ACTIVITIES AT Shinde

Game Drives

Morning and afternoon game drives in open vehicles provide excellent opportunities to see big cats, elephants, buffalo, antelope, and a variety of smaller species. Night drives are also possible in the private concession, offering the chance to encounter nocturnal wildlife such as civets, genets, and owls.

Mokoro Excursions

Poling through the shallow delta channels in a traditional dugout canoe is one of Shinde’s signature experiences, allowing guests to see aquatic life and bird species up close in a peaceful, silent setting.

Motorboat Safaris

When water levels permit, motorboat trips explore the deeper channels and lagoons, where hippos and crocodiles can often be spotted along with abundant birdlife.

Walking Safaris

Guided walks are available for those wanting to connect more closely with the delta ecosystem, focusing on tracks, plants, and smaller creatures while learning survival skills from expert guides.

Birdwatching

The mix of water and dry habitats makes Shinde an excellent destination for birders, with species ranging from colorful kingfishers to the sought-after Pel’s fishing owl.

Fishing

Seasonal fishing for species such as bream and tigerfish can be arranged, typically on a catch-and-release basis to protect the ecosystem.
