Giving Back Safaris

Mission Tours and Safaris in Kenya and Tanzania

Our Mission Tours and Safaris

Our Impactful Safaris in Kenya and Tanzania

As part of our expansive reach to communities in our main safari destinations, we at Cheetah Safaris felt it was important and sustainable to give back and appreciate communities that give us their land for wildlife game drives and wildlife conservation. In return, we come back to these communities with an impactful initiative like enhancing education, hygiene, and the economy. In this way, it becomes more sustainable, offering these communities a long-lasting value for what they sacrificed for.

We work closely with organisations such as Worldserve International Kenya and Biglife Foundation to enhance our operations and make these initiatives impactful. Cheetah Safaris collaborates with more organisations and other interested parties in making sure these initiatives are well coordinated and established to the end.

Understanding Mission Tours in Kenya and Tanzania

The concept of mission tours in Kenya and Tanzania is the union of service and top travel experiences in one place. Unlike ordinary tours, mission tours tend to be for faith-based organizations and NGOs as well as individuals seeking to give back to society while taking in the breathtaking views of East Africa.

Elements of Mission Tours and Safaris in Kenya and Tanzania

In an ideal mission tour, there are usually three key elements of focus:

  • Community Development and Infrastructural Projects: These usually involve tangible activities such as rebuilding schools, building churches, and developing water sources (boreholes and filtration).
  • Humanitarian/Health Services: In addition, many of our mission trips have specialized groups conducting medical/dental camps, health education seminars, anti-FGM/widow empowerment, and sanitation campaigns through providing biodegradable sanitary pads.
  • Religious/Educational Services: There are also many opportunities to teach in schools, preach the gospel, conduct youth ministries, and run outreach sports programs.

Why Combine a Mission Project with Safari

Be more Impactful by extending your mission with a safari

Significance of Combining a Mission Project with a Safari at the end

A safari element combined with a mission agenda in a travel itinerary does not constitute an add-on but rather a must-have component that enables mission sustainability and impact.

  • Rebirth Spiritually and Mentally: Mission activities in Kenya can be quite challenging both physically and mentally, requiring people to face the realities of poverty and other social challenges. Mission trips always have to be followed by a safari to enable people to rejuvenate mentally after their encounters with various social issues.
  • Financial Contributions towards Wildlife Preservation: As mentioned above, Kenya’s wildlife coexists with people in different communities. A safari trip helps the mission groups make financial contributions through:
    • Anti-poaching measures.
    • Wildlife preservation studies.
    • Local guide and ranger employment opportunities, which benefit the communities the mission serves.
  • Holistic Cultural Appreciation: As the mission phase of a tour provides a glimpse into the struggles of the community, the safari reveals the pride and history of the nation. It is essential to be able to experience not only the plight but also the glory of Kenya to avoid “poverty tourism.”
  • Promoting Community Unity: Many contemporary mission trips incorporate visits to community-owned conservancies. In such cases, the “charitable side” and the “safari side” literally coincide. For example, one can be staying in a lodge run by the local Maasai tribe, whose revenues cover the costs of sending the same children who visited during the mission trip phase to school.

Is Kenya and Tanzania Safe to Visit For Missions?

You must be wondering if Kenya and Tanzania are Safe for travel and safaris. The short answer is Kenya and Tanzania are safe to visit for both missions and safaris, either with your family, work colleagues, friends, or just on solo travel.

Yes, it is high recommended to combine both missions and safaris in Kenya and Tanzania. This helps you appreciate much more than the mission projects.

Mission Teams often engage in community service projects, such as sanitation projects, clean water drilling and distributions, supporting local schools, orphanage visits, medical camps, or church partnerships.

When planning Mission Tours in Kenya and Tanzania, it’s advisable to consult a travel doctor for vaccines (such as Yellow Fever) and malaria prevention. Drink bottled water and bring necessary medications.

For a Kenya and or Tanzania Safari, carry lightweight clothing such as khaki, beige, and green apparel and sleepwear, as well as long-sleeved shirts and pants for sun and insect protection, even though it will be cold in the early morning hours. It will be important to carry a fleece, jacket, and beanie to keep warm, but it will also be warm.

Kenyan and Tanzanian mission tours highlight the relational nature of their faith-based culture and encourage acts of Ubuntu. For these tours to be successful, one must learn Swahili, respect the elderly, dress modestly, and prioritize community trust above schedules.

Travelers need a passport valid for six months, a Kenya eTA, and a Tanzania visa. A Yellow Fever certificate is mandatory for cross-border travel. Essential items include mission invitation letters, proof of bookings, and updated vaccinations. For finances, carry newer USD bills (post-2006) to ensure acceptance at local entry points.
