Alexander Ngunjiri’s love for nature and inspiration from his father, who has been in the safari industry for years, guided him into a lifelong career in wildlife tourism. He has 23 years of experience, including 3 years in Samburu, 7 years in the Maasai Mara, and 13 years as a safari driver guide. His expertise spans animals, birds, and plants, giving him a deep understanding of East Africa’s rich biodiversity.
He believes every protected area has its own unique charm. His favourite destinations include Amboseli National Reserve for its large herds of elephants and the spectacular view of Mount Kilimanjaro on a clear day, and the Maasai Mara National Reserve for its abundant wildlife and the iconic Great Migration.
Throughout his career, Alexander has witnessed remarkable wildlife moments, including a Grevy’s zebra being rescued from lions by a Cape buffalo, a single lioness taking down a Grevy’s zebra, and more than 300 hyenas engaging in what appeared like a war. Among all animals, elephants remain his favourite for their intelligence, their ability to dig for water in dry riverbeds benefiting other wildlife, and their historical role in shaping Africa’s landscapes. He is also fascinated by black rhinos, often described as ancient survivors from the time of dinosaurs.
Alexander enjoys guiding guests who show curiosity about the fauna and flora of Kenya, helping them connect deeply with the wildlife. He advises first time safari travelers to work with a reliable tour operator to ensure professional and safe experiences.
He trained at the Centre for Tourism Training and Research (CTTR) in Nairobi, earning a Tour Guiding Certificate, followed by on the job training at several camps and participation in wildlife seminars. Outside of guiding, he enjoys spending time with his family and reading books about Africa’s fauna and flora.
