How to Apply for Tanzania eVisa Online – Tanzania E-Visa Application Guide

To facilitate Visa Applications in Tanzania, the Government of Tanzania introduced an online platform that helps travelers and visitors apply for Tanzanian Visas easily and obtain them online.

Applying for a Tanzania eVisa online is easy. It’s a step-by-step procedure that guides you through as you fill in all your details and then finally wait for a few days before it is processed and sent to your email address.

The Process of Visa Application to Tanzania for Your Tanzania Safaris.

How to apply for the Tanzania e-Visa

Visit https://visa.immigration.go.tz/ and under “New Application” select “APPLY FOR A NEW VISA.” On this page, you can also start a new application, resume an application, or check the status of an application you have already submitted.

To apply for a new visa, enter your email address, passport number, passport issue country, and create a security question and answer (for resuming your application at another time if needed). Click “I’m not a robot” and select “Start New Application.”

You will be sent an Application ID to the email address you provided should you need to resume your application at another time.

Tanzania Travel Plans

If traveling to Zanzibar from Kenya, your destination will be Zanzibar and the port type will be “Airport.” The port of entry and departure will be Abeid Amani Karume International Airport.

If traveling to the Tanzania Mainland from Kenya, your destination will be Tanzania Mainland and the port type will be “Roads.” The port of entry and departure will be Namanga.

If your tour is only visiting Tanzania, your port type will be “Airport.” The port of entry will be Kilimanjaro Airport and the port of departure will be Kilimanjaro Airport (or Dar Es Salaam if returning from Zanzibar).

Tracking Tanzania eVisa Application

After successfully applying, an applicant may track the progress of his application by using his ID Number, which is given during the application stage.

To track the application, the applicant will go back to the Visa Application System, and then click the Visa Status button.

Requirements for the Tanzania eVisa Application Process

TANZANIA ORDINARY (SINGLE ENTRY) VISA:

This visa is granted to foreign nationals for Visit, Tourism, Leisure, Holiday, attending conferences, Humanitarian and charity activities, Family Visit, Health Treatment, or any other purpose as may be determined by the issuing authority. Its validity does not exceed 90 days for a single entry.

An application for an Ordinary Visa should be accompanied by the following;

  • Copy of the applicant’s valid passport (biographic data page);
  • Return ticket of the flight (not mandatory);
  • Duly filled in the declaration form
  • 50 USD visa fee.

TANZANIA MULTIPLE ENTRY VISA:

This Visa may be issued to foreign nationals whose purposes of visits call for frequent visits to the United Republic of Tanzania. These may include Directors of Companies registered in Tanzania who do not reside in the country, Persons engaged in Bilateral Meetings, Spouses married to Tanzanians/Residents, Government Consultants, Representatives of international NGOs, and any other person as may be determined by the Commissioner General of Immigration or Commissioner of Immigration Zanzibar.

This Visa (Multiple) is also issued to American citizens who wish to come for Holiday or Tourism purposes, as they are not entitled to an Ordinary Visa. The maximum validity of this Visa is 12 months. However, the holder of the Multiple Visa cannot stay in the country for twelve (12) consecutive months. They are required to leave the country at most after every three months.

American nationals who wish to visit Tanzania for tourism or holiday purposes MUST select this type of Visa while applying Online.

  • Copy of the applicant’s valid passport (biographic data page);
  • Tanzania eVisa Application Fee is USD 100 for this option
  • Valid passport or national ID of the person to be visited in Tanzania (host) OR;
  • A cover letter of the host Institution detailing the reasons and frequency of Visits OR;
  • Attached Certificate of marriage of a spouse and a passport/national ID, if the applicant comes to visit a spouse OR;
  • Any proof that justifies that a visitor is required to visit the United Republic of Tanzania frequently.
  • Return ticket of the flight (not mandatory);

TANZANIA BUSINESS VISA:

Business visa may be issued for a period not exceeding 90 days to foreign nationals who wish to enter in the United Republic of Tanzania for one of the following

Purposes:

  • To conduct special assignments such as fixing/repairing machines or running short-term training, etc.
  • To conduct short-time professional roles such as auditing accounts, making feasibility studies, establishing professionals and business contacts, making arrangements for investments during the startup period, etc.
  • To conduct any other short-term lawful business-related task recognized by the laws of the country and as may be determined by the issuing authority.

Requirements:

  • Copy of the applicant’s valid passport (biographic data page);
  • Return ticket of the flight;
  • Tanzania eVisa Application Fee is USD 250 for this option
  • A work contract or any proof of the work/assignment to be performed within a period not exceeding three months; or

TANZANIA TRANSIT VISA:

This Visa may be issued to foreign nationals to transit through to another destination outside the United Republic for a period not exceeding seven days. The applicant for this visa may be required to provide proof of a Visa from the destination country and/or an Onward ticket.

Transit Visa is strictly intended for those travelers whose purpose of entry is to pass through Tanzania, and cannot be used for tourism purposes.

  • Copy of the applicant’s valid passport (biographic data page).
  • Tanzania eVisa Application Fee is USD 30 for this option
  • An entry visa or onward ticket to the intended country of destination.

TANZANIA STUDENT VISA:

Students who wish to visit the United Republic for various academic issues for a period not exceeding three months may be issued a student Visa for a fee of 50 USD. Whereas those who come for the same purpose for a period exceeding 3 months will pay 250 USD. On the other hand, students who wish to pursue research activities will pay 550 USD and will be issued with a Student Visa for a maximum period of 2 years.

  • Copy of the applicant’s valid passport (biographic data page).
  • Tanzania eVisa Application Fee is USD 50, 250 USD, or 550 USD Visa fee depending on the category and duration for this option.
  • Covering letter from the host institution/college where the foreign student will be hosted, the letter must detail the course/field and duration of the program to be attended

Kindly note that visa applications take around 10 to 15 days to get processed. Please observe the time frame before filling out the application.

Tanzania Entry Points Information

All travelers whether foreign nationals, Tanzania citizens, or Residents, MUST enter Tanzania through a designated (formal) Entry Point. Upon arrival, the traveler will be responsible for:

  1. Appearing in person in front of an Immigration Officer with a completed and signed arrival declaration card, and
  2. Producing their passport or other acceptable document to an Immigration Officer; and
  3. In the case of foreign nationals; they may be required to:
  4. To show their Visa or apply for a Visa on arrival;
  5. To show Residence Permit/Pass If they are bonafide Residents in Tanzania;
  6. Return ticket or evidence of onward travel arrangement; and
  7. Evidence of funds for maintenance (upkeep budget)

Important Items to Note when applying for a Tanzania eVisa for Safaris

    • There are two options to obtain a Tanzania Visa. These are the Online Visa Platform and On-Arrival Visa Platform. This means, that after the introduction of the Online Visa System, Visa is no longer issued at Embassies;
    • The On-Arrival Visa facility may only be used by applicants whose nationalities do not fall under the Referral Visa category. Despite having the On Arrival Visa facility, it is recommended that all applicants use an online Visa platform;
    • Applicants who wish to use on arrival Visa facility are required to countercheck If their nationalities are not in the list of countries that fall under the Referral category;
    • Tanzania eVisa Applicants of Online Visas are strongly advised to read carefully the Visa Guidelines before making an application;
    • Online Visa applicants are advised to make their applications through the Official Tanzania Immigration website (www.immigration.go.tz) ONLY or directly through the link: visa.immigration.go.tz and Not through any other links;
    • Any applicant of Tanzania Visa is assumed to have read, understood, and agreed to the Terms and Conditions available on the Visa Portal and stipulated in the Declaration;
    • Applicants must ensure that their passports have a validity of at least six months and at least one unused visa page before submitting their application;
    • An applicant is expected to apply for the right category of visa. If the applicant is not sure about the type of visa he/she requires, he/she is advised to seek guidance through the e-mail: info@immigration.go.tz
    • Visitors who wish to come for a holiday or Tourism are advised to apply for an Ordinary Visa. However, holders of American passports who come for holiday or tourism will have to apply for Multiple Entry Visa;
    • Applicants who are not Americans, and wish to apply for Multiple Visas are strongly advised to read carefully and observe the requirements for Multiple Visas;
    • Any Visa wrongly applied or which lacks sufficient attachment(s) may be rejected;
    • No refund will be made in respect of any rejected Visa application;
    • As reflected in the Client Service Charter, the normal Visa applications may be processed within ten days. However, some applications as may be determined by the authority, may call for more processing time;
    • After making payments, applicants are required to wait for approval of their Visa before they start their journey, even If the stipulated time frame expires;
    • Approval notifications will be sent to applicants’ e-mails. If for any reason, the applicant does not receive an email notification of Visa approval within the specified time, he may download the Visa Grant Notice through the following link: https://eservices.immigration.go.tz/visa/checkapplicationstatus;
    • If the Visa is not issued within the specified time frame, the applicant may make follow-up through the official email: info@immigration.go.tz;
    • The Tanzania Immigration Services Department may give or withhold reasons for the rejection of the Visa to the applicant;
    • Applicants whose nationals fall under the Referral Visa category are not eligible for on on-arrival Visa platform. They must apply Online. Before getting approval for their Visa, they are not advised to pay for flight tickets or hotel accommodation. They may only make a flight booking or make hotel reservations, but actual payments should only be done after they get approval for their Visa. Also, such applicants are advised to apply at least 6 weeks before their date of travel;
    • The list of countries that fall under Referred Visa may change at any time; therefore, applicants are advised to review this list on our website from time to time
    • Visa regulations and conditions may be subject to change at any time without prior notification to the applicants

     

    Note:

    It should be noted that the possession of a Tanzania Visa is not a final authority to enter the United Republic of Tanzania. The Immigration Officer at the Entry point may refuse a holder of a Tanzania Visa to enter, if he is satisfied that the holder is unable to fulfill Immigration entry requirements or if the presence of such person or visitors in the United Republic of Tanzania would be contrary to the National Interests.
