About Basecamp Wilderness Camp
Basecamp Wilderness Camp is an eco-friendly camp found in the heart of Kenya’s Naboisho Conservancy that is located within the Maasai Mara’s ecosystem. The camp is designed to generally forge luxury with sustainability offering guests a unique, comfortable and authentic experience while also connecting yo to nature and the Maasai culture.
It’s made up of canvas tents that are spacious and comfortable. Some of the eco-friendly practices it incorporates is the use of solar power in terms of lighting, powering and heating. It also takes in water conservation methods. The camp works close with the local communities of maasai through employment and supporting their local projects so as to integrate their culture.
ACCESS & LOCATION of Basecamp Wilderness Camp
The camp is accessible by both air and road. The closest airstip is Naboisho airstrip which is a 15 to 20 minutes drive from the camp. The flight from Nairobi’s Wilson airport takes between 45 minutes to 1 hour. Charter flights from nairobi or wherever region can also be arranged.
If you are going by road the basecamp is 270 km from Nairobi making your drive approximately 6 to 7 hours. You’d be required to drive through Narok town and continue on gravel roads towards the Naboisho Conservancy. A 4×4 vehicle is recommended especially on the rainy season.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT Basecamp Wilderness Camp
The camp has seven tents strategically placed around the Saddle Valley rim in Mara Naibosho conservancy this is to allow for complete privacy and ultimate views of the savannah. Each tent comprises of double beds, a separate bathroom unit with bio flush toilets and traditional bucket showers which can be heated at your request and a private seating area that overlooks the Maasai Mara landscape.
There are guest tents and a newly added family tents that accommodate up to 4 people. It’s elevated on a wooden platform and is spacious featuring two separate wings each equipped with its own bedroom, bathroom and private veranda. Each room can hold a king size or twin beds.
There is a communal lounge, dining area and fireplace. The establishment is also solar powered.

ACTIVITIES AT Basecamp Wilderness Camp
Guided Game Drives
Both day and night drives are available. For the day drives you get to experience and explore the diverse wildlife at the conservancy like the big five. Night drives on the other hand have you explore the nocturnal side of wildlife like hyenas and leopards.
Hot air balloon safaris
Experience the maasai mara from an aerial view with a hot air balloon ride that offers amazing views of wildlife and landscape and is often followed by a champagne bush breakfast.
Cultural Excursions
Partake in visits to Maasai village and engage with the community learning about their traditions and way of life while also participating in their traditional dances and experience a craft making session.
Young Explorers club
There are tailored children activities that include educational nature walks, basic bushcraft skills and learning about local wildlife and conservation efforts.
