Khayelitshe House

About Khayelitshe House

Khayelitshe House is an exclusive-use, luxury safari villa located in the heart of the Matobo Hills in southern Zimbabwe, just outside the boundary of Matobo National Park.

The property derives its name from the Ndebele words “Ekhaya” and “Litshe“, which beautifully translate to “Home in the Rocks”. It is completely off-the-grid, solar-powered, and surrounded by a striking natural amphitheater of massive granite boulders and iconic balancing rocks.

How do you Get to Khayelitshe House?

Khayelitshe House is easily accessible by road, located roughly 50-55 kilometers south of Bulawayo just outside the main gate of Matobo National Park. Because the property sits in a rugged granite boulder area, self-driving guests or transfer vehicles require specific route planning.

The travel time from Khayelitshe House to Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport in Bulawayo is approximately 1 hour.

Primary Road Routes & Travel Times.

From Bulawayo (City Center or International Airport): It takes a 1-hour drive to reach the house. You exit the city heading south on Matopos Road, which is a tarred, well-maintained highway leading directly to the national park’s boundary line.

Access by air to Khayelitshe House is primarily coordinated through Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport (BUQ) in Bulawayo. Because the property is located in the mountainous, boulder-strewn terrain of the Matobo Hills, there is no private airstrip directly on the estate.

Primary Flight Routings & Logistics.

Commercial Flights: Travelers fly commercially into Bulawayo (BUQ). The airport receives daily direct flights from regional hubs, primarily Johannesburg (JNB) via South African Airways and The Final Leg: Upon landing at Bulawayo Airport, guests transition to a 1-hour private road transfer to reach the villa. This transfer is seamlessly arranged by the lodge operator,  African Bush Camps, with a private driver and vehicle waiting at the terminal. Fastjet, as well as domestic connections from Harare (HRE).

Flight Time: Direct domestic flights between Harare (HRE) and Bulawayo (BUQ) take roughly 45 minutes to 1 hour of air time.
