How do you Get to Nyamatusi Camp?

Accessing Nyamatusi Camp by road is a rugged wilderness journey that requires a fully equipped 4×4 vehicle with high ground clearance. It is only recommended for confident off-road drivers, as it involves navigating deep sand, corrugations, and dry riverbeds within Mana Pools National Park, Zimbabwe.

The total drive from Harare to the camp takes roughly 6 to 8 hours depending on road conditions and wildlife sightings:

The Highway (Harare to Makuti): Drive north from Harare on the paved A1 highway for about 3.5 hours to reach the town of Makuti.

The Permit Stop: You must stop at the Marongora ZimParks Office (located on the escarpment just past Makuti) to pay your parking entry fees and obtain your vehicle entry permit before descending into the valley.

The Gravel Turnoff: Roughly 18 kilometers down the escarpment past Marongora, turn right onto the dirt road at the Mana Pools signpost.

The Park Gates: Drive roughly 30 kilometers on heavily corrugated dirt to reach the Nyakasikana Gate (the park’s outer boundary), and then another 40 kilometers to reach the main park headquarters at Nyamepi.

Air access to Nyamatusi Camp is the standard and most convenient way to reach the property. It is facilitated via scheduled or private light aircraft charter flights directly into the wilderness.

All air arrivals land at the Mana Main Airstrip (also known as the Mana Pools Airstrip), located inside the national park

The Final Leg: Once you touch down, a professional guide from the camp will meet you at the aircraft steps.

The Ground Transfer: The remaining journey to the camp is a 45-minute scenic game drive in an open 4×4 safari vehicle. This often serves as your very first wildlife-viewing excursion, as animals frequently cross the tracks en route.

From Harare International Airport (HRE): A flight to Mana Main Airstrip takes roughly 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Inter-Park Hopping: Charter planes also easily connect Nyamatusi to neighboring wildlife regions, such as a 45-minute flight from Hwange National Park (Manga Airstrip) or a short jump from Lake Kariba/Bumi Hills.
