How do you pay for Udzungwa Mountains National Park Fees? To pay for Park Fees, you will have to visit the Tanapa Account, create an account, and select Udzungwa Mountains National Park to pay for the park fees.

How to Pay

Some parks allow online payment of park entrance fees, and some do not. Always check official websites for updated data on how to pay your park fees online.

You can generate a permit ticket at the park entrance gates and pay using your preferred payment method like credit card or M-pesa.

2. Payment at Park Gates:

Some parks accept payments at the entrance via mobile money or credit cards. Always ask your Tour operator, our team member, or the national park authority to check if you can pay at the park gates.

Most National Parks accept major credit cards like Visa and Mastercard. American Express is not recommended.

Most national parks do not accept Cash payments; if it happens they do, then it should be in both Tanzanian Shillings (TZS) or USD.

Best Time to Visit Udzungwa Mountains National Park

Udzungwa Mountains National Park is a year-round destination, but the best time depends on visitor preferences for hiking conditions and wildlife viewing.

Low Season

March to May

This is the rainy season, when the park experiences heavy rainfall. The trails become muddy and slippery, making hiking more challenging. However, this is the best time for lush greenery, birdwatching, and fewer crowds. Accommodation rates are lower, making it ideal for budget travelers.

High Season

June to October

This is the dry season, offering the best hiking conditions. The trails are drier, and temperatures are cooler, making it ideal for trekking to Sanje Waterfalls or exploring the rainforest. Wildlife is also easier to spot as animals gather near water sources.

Peak Season

July to September & December to February

These months attract the highest number of visitors, especially international tourists. The weather is dry and pleasant, making it perfect for hiking and photography. However, accommodation prices are higher, and some areas may feel busier than usual.

How to get to Udzungwa Mountains National Park

The park is accessible by road, air, and rail. By road, the drive from Dar es Salaam to Udzungwa takes about 5 to 6 hours via Morogoro and Mikumi along the A7 highway. From Mikumi town, it’s about 60 km to the park’s entrance at Mang’ula, which takes approximately 1.5 hours on a well maintained road. Buses and private taxis are available from Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, or Mikumi to Mang’ula.

For air travel, the nearest airstrip is Mikumi Airstrip, which receives charter flights from Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, or Arusha. From Mikumi, visitors can take a short road transfer to Udzungwa. Additionally, visitors can take the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (TAZARA) from Dar es Salaam to Mang’ula Station, located just a few kilometers from the park entrance. This scenic train journey takes about 6 to 7 hours and is a unique way to reach the park.
