About Campi ya Kanzi
Campi ya Kanzi was initially opened in 1998 as a luxury home and has since evolved into an expansive 16b bed tented camp on the hillsides. The camp is run by the Maasai community. This is an eco-friendly award winning eco-lodge in a Maasai owned conservancy that is within the views of the Kilimanjaro. It is in partner with the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust that safeguards the biodiversity of the Tsavo-Amboseli ecosystem.
The camp is strategically located between Tsavo, Amboseli and Chyulu national park so you will definitely get to see the Big Five and other mammals.
The camp is located in southern Kenya with July being the coolest month with January and February being the warmest.
ACCESS & LOCATION of Campi ya Kanzi
The camp is situated within a private Maasai-owned reserve that stretches from the Chyulu Hills to the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Campi ya Kanzi is accessible via charter flights to the camps own private airstrip that’s a 10 minute drive from the camp. Charter flights can also land at Amboseli airstrip which is 1.5 hours away by road. Flights from Nairobi’s Wilson airport to the private airstrip or Amboseli takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
The camp is 250 km from nairobi making it a 4 to 5 hours drive via the Nairobi-Mombasa road and branching off onto a dirt road leading to the Kuku Group Ranch. If you are from the Amboseli National Park the camp is 70 km away which will take you about 2 hours.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT Campi ya Kanzi
Campi ya Kanzi accommodates at most 16 guests in their 6 thatched roof tented cottages and in their hemingway and simba suites. They are all within ample distance from one another. Each accommodation has a dedicated Maasai attendant. Kazi house is ideal for groups and families as it accommodates a maximum of 10 guests. The house has 3 double rooms and 2 twin rooms.
Some of the amenities available are en-suite bathrooms, a bar, a campfire, hot water, professional safari guides, 24 hour solar electricity and a swimming pool.
ACTIVITIES AT Campi ya Kanzi
Game Drives
Both day and night drives at the Kuku Group Ranch are offered. The private maasai reserve is home to lions, giraffes, elephants, wildebeests, zebras and numerous bird species. The night drives give you a chance to experience nocturnal species such as hyenas and bush babies.
Maasai guided walking safaris
Get to walk through the savannah and Chyulu hills with a skilled Maasai guide who will share their knowledge of the landscape and their tracking techniques. You will also learn about animal behaviour and the areas ecosystems. You will also get to enjoy bush picnics while getting views of Mount Kilimanjaro during the guided walks.
Mount Kilimanjaro Excursions
Visit the Amboseli region for closer views and interactions of Mount Kilimanjaro. This is often combined with game drives. Hikes on the foothills of the mountain or volcanic craters in the Chyulu hills are available.
Sustainability and Conservation activities
The camp gives you an opportunity to participate in conservations efforts such as monitoring of wildlife and getting to learn about zero-carbon safari operations. You can engage with the Maasai Wilderness Conservation trust projects that focus on healthcare, wildlife and education initiatives.
