How do you Get to Embogo Safari Lodge?

To access Embogo Lodges (Embogo Safari Lodge) by road, you will drive to the Ishasha sector in the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda. The lodge is located in Katobi village, just 1 kilometre from the park’s main Ishasha Gate.

The driving time and routes vary based on your starting location in Uganda:

From Kampala or Entebbe (The Capital Hubs).

Distance: Approximately 390 km to 420 km

Driving Time: 7 to 8 hours under normal conditions.

The Route: Take the smoothly paved highway southwest from Kampala through Masaka and Mbarara. From Mbarara, continue through Bushenyi and descend the scenic Kichwamba Escarpment. Head south through Kihihi town via the tarmac-to-dirt road network straight to Katobi village and the Ishasha gate.

From Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (Gorilla Trekking Hub)

Embogo is a highly popular stopover directly after gorilla trekking because of its close proximity to the forest:

Distance: 65 km to 90 km (depending on your trekking sector).

Driving Time: 1.5 to 2 hours from the northern Buhoma sector of Bwindi.

The Route: Drive north out of Bwindi through Butogota and Kihihi town, following the dirt safari tracks directly to the lodge’s gates.

From Northern Queen Elizabeth National Park (Kasenyi / Mweya)

If you are moving from the northern sector of the park (near Elephant Plains Lodge) down to the southern tree-climbing lion sector:

Distance: Approximately 85 km

Driving Time: 2 to 2.5 hours

The Route: Drive south along the park’s internal Katunguru-Ishasha road.

To access Embogo Lodges (Embogo Safari Lodge) by air, you will take a 1-hour domestic scheduled flight, followed by a short road transfer. Because the property is located in the southern Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, it utilizes a separate regional airfield than the northern park lodges

The Route: You will board a scheduled domestic flight departing from Entebbe International Airport (EBB) and land at Kihihi Airstrip (KHX).

The Flight Duration: The direct air transit takes approximately 1 hour.

The Final Leg: Once you touch down in Kihihi, the lodge provides a 4×4 safari vehicle transfer. The driving distance from Kihihi Airstrip to the lodge is about 21 km, which takes 35 to 45 minutes along a dirt safari track.
