Il Ngwesi Community Conservancy is a community-owned and managed wildlife conservancy in Laikipia County, Kenya. Covering approximately 8,645 hectares (21,377 acres), the conservancy is a pioneer in eco-tourism and sustainable conservation, providing a habitat for diverse wildlife while benefiting the local Maasai community. Established in the 1990s, Il Ngwesi stands out as a successful example of community-led conservation where wildlife and people coexist harmoniously.
The conservancy is home to iconic African wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, zebras, leopards, and buffalos. It is also one of the few places in Kenya where visitors can see the black rhino in a community-managed setting. Il Ngwesi is committed to preserving its natural resources through low-impact tourism, ensuring that revenue generated benefits the local Maasai people through education, healthcare, and livelihood projects.
