Birdnest Bunyonyi Resort is directly accessible by road via the standard Kampala-Mbarara-Kabale route. Unlike many island lodges on Lake Bunyonyi, it sits directly on the mainland shore, meaning no boat transfers are required to reach the front desk
Driving from Kampala or Entebbe (7 to 9 Hours).
The Route: Take the smooth, fully tarmacked highway south-west via Masaka and Mbarara. You will cross the Equator along this stretch.
Distance: Approximately 420 to 450 kilometers.
Road Condition: High-quality asphalt all the way into Kabale town center driving from Kigali, Rwanda (2 to 3 Hours).
The Route: Cross into Uganda through either the Gatuna/Katuna border post or the Cyanika border.
Convenience: This is often the preferred route for international travelers as the drive from Kigali International Airport to the resort is significantly shorter than the drive from Entebbe.
The Final Stretch: Kabale Town to Birdnest (15 to 30 Minutes).
The Turn-off: Drive through Kabale town center following the main highway. Take a sharp left turn at the Y-junction roughly 0.5 kilometers outside town (signposted toward Kisoro/Lake Bunyonyi).
