About Twiga Safari Lodge
Twiga Safari Lodge is a mid-range safari lodge located on the southern bank of River Nile in Mubaako, Paraa, directly opposite Murchison Falls National Park in Uganda. The lodge is approximately 350km from Kampala and is a 5-minute drive from the Paraa ferry crossing, providing easy access to game drives and boat safaris.
How do you Get to Twiga Safari Lodge?
Twiga Safari Lodge is accessible by road from Kampala, journey of approximately 300-350km that typically takes 5 to 6 hours. The route is primarily paved until reaching the park boundaries, after which it transitions to murrum (dirt) road. This is the most direct, secure, and popular asphalt-to-dirt highway route:
Kampala to Masindi Town: Depart Kampala heading north along the fully paved Kampala–Gulu Highway. Turn left at the Kafu Bridge junction and drive 45 km into Masindi Town to top up on fuel and food supplies.
Masindi to the Park Entrance: From Masindi, take the unpaved murram (dirt) road heading north for 24 km to enter Murchison Falls National Park through the Kichumbanyobo Gate.
The Southern Forest Drive: Drive north for about 60 km (~1.5 hours) on the main graded dirt road cutting straight through the Kaniyo Pabidi and Budongo Forest sectors.
Arriving at Mubaako-Paraa: Keep driving straight toward the Paraa area. Right before reaching the actual Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) riverbank ferry landing, look for the signage for the Mubaako village area. Twiga Safari Lodge is located right along this southern riverfront track.
Accessing Twiga Safari Lodge by air reduces your travel time to a 1-hour domestic scheduled flight, replacing a 5-to-6-hour road journey. Flights depart from hubs in southern Uganda and land on airstrips inside Murchison Falls National Park.
Because Twiga Safari Lodge sits on the southern bank of the River Nile, choosing your landing airstrip determines your final transfer logistics.
Primary arrivals.
Bugungu Airstrip (Most Convenient): Located on the southern bank of the Nile. This is the most seamless landing option for Twiga Safari Lodge. A pre-arranged safari vehicle will pick you up from the runway for a quick, direct 30-to-40-minute drive straight to the lodge without needing a river ferry crossing.
Pakuba Airfield (Alternative): Located on the northern bank of the River Nile. If your domestic flight lands here, your 45-minute vehicle transfer to the lodge must include crossing the river via the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) vehicle ferry to reach the southern bank.
