About Gorilla Leisure Lodge
Gorilla Leisure Lodge is an intimate, chic mid-range to upscale eco-safari lodge located directly in the Rushaga sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda. Perched on an elevated ridge overlooking the misty volcanic landscape and the ancient Kisoro hills, it serves as a highly convenient base for mountain gorilla trekking.
How do you Get to Gorilla Leisure Lodge?
Gorilla Leisure Lodge is accessible by road via two primary routes: a long scenic drive from Uganda’s capital, or a much shorter cross-border route from Rwanda.
Because the lodge sits in a remote montane forest ecosystem, a robust 4×4 vehicle is strictly required for the final unpaved sections of the drive.
The Uganda Route (From Kampala / Entebbe)
Travel Time: 8 to 10 hours depending on traffic and weather conditions
Distance: Approximately 500 km.
The Itinerary: You will drive west from Kampala along the smooth, paved highway via Mbarara and Ntungamo to Kabale town. From Kabale, you proceed toward Kisoro and branch off at Muko onto the unpaved murram roads heading into the Rushaga sector of
The Rwanda Route (From Kigali).
Travel Time: 4 to 5 hours (the fastest and most convenient driving option).
Distance: Approximately 180 km.
The Itinerary: You depart from Kigali International Airport and drive north through Rwanda’s rolling hills to the Uganda-Rwanda border. You can cross at either the Cyanika Border (heading straight to Kisoro town) or the Gatuna/Katuna Border (heading via Kabale). From Kisoro town, a 1-hour mountain road drive brings you to the lodge.
Accessing Gorilla Leisure Lodge by air is the fastest and most comfortable option, passing the 9-hour drive from Kampala. Guests take a domestic flight to Kisoro Airstrip, which is the closest flight hub to the lodge’s location in the Rushaga sector.
┬аThe Flight (Entebbe to Kisoro Airstrip).
Departure Points: Flights depart daily from Entebbe international Airport (EBB) or the nearby Kajjansi Airfield.
Flighty Duration: Approximately 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes.
The Final Ground Transfer (Airstrip to Lodge).
Travel Time: 1 hour to 1 hour and 20 minutes.
The Route: Upon landing at Kisoro Airstrip, you will be met by a 4×4 safari vehicle. The drive follows a winding, scenic dirt road that cuts through local villages and valleys, offering views of the volcanic landscape.
