Why Choose Uganda for Safari

Why You Should Visit Uganda for your African Safari

Uganda is referred to as the ‘Pearl of Africa’ due to its magical offerings. Its terrain is way different compared to the other East African Countries, known for savannah and plains. Covered with tropical forests, hills, and mountains, this habitat gives the silverback gorillas a conducive environment in which to grow in numbers.

While Kenya’s Maasai Mara and Tanzania’s Serengeti are world-famous for their sheer scale, Uganda’s appeal lies in its extraordinary diversity within a relatively small area. Bordering Kenya to the east, Congo to the west, Rwanda to the south, and South Sudan to the North, its strategic location is perfect for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Unlike visiting Kenya and Tanzania for the big cats and the wildebeest migration, Uganda offers a striking difference that can be added to one’s safari itinerary. The most recommended reason to visit Uganda is the Gorilla Trekking and Chimpanzee Trekking.

This East African destination is perfect for the big five. Apart from the gorilla and chimp trekking, it’s easy to enjoy sighting other wildlife species such as lions, elephants, leopards, and cheetahs. You can visit Queen Elizabeth for an amazing guided safari and spot some of the best wildlife, such as the tree-climbing lions, herds of elephants moving around, and many others. It’s a perfect destination for birds as well, with different bird species.

Apart from the Gorillas and Big Five, for adventurous travellers, there are more heart-pumping and engaging activities you can undertake in Uganda, including summiting Mount Ruwenzori, doing water rafting in Jinja, and many other activities.

Low Season

High Season

Peak Season

Low Season

1st March to 31st May

During March, April, and May, Uganda receives some good rainfall. The wet season dominates the country, making it hard to trek and find gorillas. Also, it’s a good time to spot migratory birds.

High Season

1st November to 30th December

It’s a very good season to visit Uganda, but the short rains usually start from November and extend all the way to the end of December. It’s a good time to visit Uganda, but it’s tricky as the ground is wet, and gorilla trekking becomes an issue. Other parks might be easy to maneuver.

Peak Season

1st June to 30th September

This is the most recommended season to visit Uganda for an ultimate safari experience. The tracks for Gorilla Treeking are dry and easy to move around. As well as visiting the big five parks, it is easy, and wildlife spotting is easy as well.
