The Central Kalahari Game Reserve is located in central Botswana, it spans over 52,800 square kilometers, making it larger than Denmark and the second-largest game reserve in the world. It was established in 1961 to protect the unique ecosystem and provide a refuge for the San (Bushmen), who traditionally lived in the area.
The reserve is dominated by vast open plains, fossil riverbeds, salt pans, sand dunes, and thorny acacia trees. It is home to a variety of wildlife, adapted to the harsh semi-arid conditions. There are predators like lions including the famous black-maned Kalahari lions, cheetahs, leopards, wild dogs, and hyenas. Herbivores like the springbok, oryx, eland, wildebeest, kudu, giraffe, and hartebeest.
With over 200 bird species, including ostriches, secretary birds, and numerous raptors. The rainy season attracts migratory birds, making it a paradise for birdwatchers.
