Sibiloi National Park, located in northern Kenya along the eastern shores of Lake Turkana, is a UNESCO listed site known for its rich paleontological and archaeological significance. The park supports diverse wildlife, including Grevy’s zebras, crocodiles, hippos, and a variety of bird species such as flamingos and pelicans. Best Time to Visit Sibiloi National Park

The best time to visit Sibiloi National Park is during the dry seasons, from July to October and January to March. During these months, wildlife viewing is easier as animals gather around water sources, and the roads within the park are more accessible.

The temperatures remain high throughout the year, but the dry season offers clear skies and comfortable exploration conditions. The wet season (April to June and November to December) can make travel challenging due to muddy roads and flooding, though it offers beautiful landscapes and bird-watching opportunities.

Low Season

April to June, November to Early December

During this time, the park experiences heavy rainfall, which can make roads muddy and difficult to navigate. Tourist numbers are low, offering a secluded experience for those who don’t mind the wet conditions. However, game viewing can be more challenging as wildlife disperses due to abundant water sources. Birdwatching is excellent, as migratory birds are present. Accommodation and tour prices are generally lower during this period.

High Season

January to March, July to October

This is one of the best times to visit the park, as the weather is mostly dry, making roads more accessible and wildlife easier to spot around water sources. The landscape remains scenic, and temperatures are moderate. While there are more visitors compared to the low season, Sibiloi remains relatively uncrowded due to its remote location. This season is ideal for both wildlife enthusiasts and archaeology lovers exploring the Koobi Fora fossils.

Peak Season

August, December Holidays

The peak season coincides with school holidays and the festive period, attracting more domestic and international tourists. The park experiences its driest months, ensuring great wildlife viewing and comfortable travel conditions. During this time, accommodation options may be more expensive, and flights to Koobi Fora Airstrip may require early booking due to high demand.
