Best Time to Visit Tsavo East National Park

Which is the Best Time to Visit Tsavo East National Park

Tsavo East National Park is best visited during the dry months of June to October and January to February. The open savannah landscapes make it easier to spot wildlife, especially around permanent water sources like Galana River and Aruba Dam.

Low Season

March to May & November – Early December

The long rains (March to May) and short rains (November to early December) transform the park into a lush green paradise. This is a great time for birdwatching, as migratory birds arrive, but wildlife is harder to spot due to thick vegetation. Some roads may be impassable due to heavy rains, and fewer tourists visit, making it a budget friendly time to explore.

High Season

June to October

As the dry season sets in, wildlife congregates around Galana River, Aruba Dam, and other water sources, offering excellent game viewing opportunities. The weather is cooler and dry, making travel and game drives more comfortable. Visitor numbers increase, but Tsavo East remains less crowded than Kenya’s other major parks.

Peak Season

July to September & December to February

This is the best time for safaris, with high wildlife activity and clear skies for photography. The red elephants of Tsavo, lions, and cheetahs are frequently seen. Since this period coincides with international holidays, accommodations are in high demand, and prices are at their peak. The dry roads and favorable weather make for a smooth and unforgettable safari experience.
