Solio Ranch Conservancy – Nyeri, Laikipia is a privately-owned wildlife conservancy in the Greater Laikipia Region, located between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains. The 17,500-acre reserve is filled with acacia forest, traversed by a river center to the conservancy.
Solio Game Reserve plays a major part in the protection and breeding of black rhinos, recognized as one of the most successful in Kenya. The animals live in harmony with other wildlife, including lions, cheetahs, buffalo, zebra, and giraffes. The park also offers some of the best leopard viewing in the country and is an ideal place for bird-watching.
Solio Game Reserve borders the famous Conservancies, Lewa Conservancy and Olepejta Conservancy. It’s well situated with great views of the second-highest mountain in Africa, Mt. Kenya. It’s the only conservancy in Kenya to Spot Rhinos and Lions in Huge Numbers.
The Solio Game Reserve (or Solio Ranch Conservancy) used to be a working cattle ranch, but in 1973 part of it was turned into a wildlife sanctuary. The result: rhinos, pride of lions, and other wildlife came back to the area. Nowadays, it’s a 49,000-acre ranch with 19,000 acres of wildlife sanctuary for black and white rhinos.
