Discover Laikipia Plateau
Laikipia Plateau is located in central Kenya and is a wildlife destination best known for its vast landscapes, conservation efforts, and luxurious lodges. It hosts some of the most exclusive private conservancies in Kenya, like Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, Loisaba Conservancy, Segera Retreat, Ol Lentile Conservancy, and Borana Conservancy. The region spans about 9,500 square kilometers.
Laikipia is renowned for its incredible wildlife diversity, hosting Big Five species (lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino) alongside rarer animals like Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, African wild dog, and Jackson’s hartebeest. The plateau is also a birder’s paradise, with over 400 bird species recorded. Its conservancies offer intimate and exclusive safari experiences with fewer crowds compared to traditional parks.
The area is rich in cultural heritage, home to communities such as the Maasai, Samburu, and Kikuyu, who play an integral role in the conservation model. Visitors can explore the local culture through village visits, traditional dances, and guided walks with community members.

Low Season
March to May, November
This is the rainy season, with heavy rains from March to May and short rains in November. Visitor numbers are low, making it a quiet time to visit, and rates for accommodation are more affordable.
High Season
January to February, June
These months mark a transition period with drier weather, making it easier to spot wildlife. The plateau is less crowded than during peak season, and the conditions are excellent for walking safaris and other activities. Prices remain moderate, and the experience is more relaxed.
Peak Season
July to October, December
The dry season is the best time for game viewing as wildlife gathers around permanent water sources. These months coincide with Kenya’s peak tourism period, including the Great Migration in the Maasai Mara, drawing more visitors to Laikipia. Accommodations are in high demand, and rates are at their highest, but the exceptional game viewing and pleasant weather make it worthwhile.
