Lewa Conservancy is home to the special five special wildlife species. The best exclusive destination in Kenya to spot the Big Five. It has an impressive population of black and white rhinos, buffalo, and big cats. It’s also recorded as having the black (Melanic) leopard.

Best Time To Visit Lewa Wildlife Conservancy
Lewa Conservancy is one of the prime conservancies in Kenya and Wider East Africa. It’s rich in wildlife, especially the endangered black rhinos. Spot the big five, such as the Lions, cheetahs, and leopards.
The Conservancy is not in good condition during the rainy season, due to heavy rains, lodges and camps tend to close this time as they renovate their properties.
Low Season
April to June
Known as the green season, is when the long rains in Kenya start, and lodges and camps in this region are hard to access. Therefore, they all close down, and most of them take advantage of renovating them as they await the peak season from July to October
November to December
The short rains start this time, and they rain till the end of December at times. Not a good time to visit Lewa Conservancy since the roads get messy during this time.
High Season
January – March
This season is the best since the conservancy is hot, and after the short rains in December. The Conservancy gets lush green and attracts a lot of wildlife, and makes it easier to spot wildlife since the grass is not that tall, but green.
Peak Season
July to October
It’s the busiest and most loved season. Known as the peak season, when visitors from all over the world visit Kenya for the summer season and holidays. The Season starts with the cold month of July and gets hot in August to October. Short rains in Kenya start between October and December.
How to Get to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy
By Road
Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is located about 260 km north of Nairobi and is accessible by road. The journey takes approximately 5 to 6 hours via the Nanyuki-Isiolo highway. From Nairobi, you’ll travel on a tarmac road to Nanyuki, followed by well-marked dirt roads leading to the conservancy. A 4×4 vehicle is highly recommended, particularly during the rainy season, as some sections of the road can become challenging to navigate.
By Air
Daily scheduled flights are available from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to Lewa Airstrip. The flight takes about 1 hour and provides stunning aerial views of Mount Kenya and the surrounding landscapes.
